South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk fined over assault

South Korea helmer Kim Ki-duk has been charged in a case of assault against an actress in his film.

Controversial South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk has been fined in a case of assault against an actress in one of his films.

The film director was charged with a summary offense by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, it said on Thursday.

Kim is accused of harming an actress, whose identity has been withheld, during the filming of one of Kim’s movies in 2013.

The actress claims that Kim slapped her on the face and forced her to take part in an unscripted, violent scene.

She withdrew from the production and was replaced by another actress.

Kim later acknowledged the incident, but denied assault.

He has been ordered to pay a penalty of USD 4,570 for his offense.

The South Korean maverick filmmaker has won film prizes at some major film events including those held in Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
