‘The Salesman’ gets Golden Globes nom

The 2017 Golden Globe Awards has nominated Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s ‘The Salesman’.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced on Monday the list of nominees for the 74th Golden Globe Awards ceremony, to take place in the US city of Beverly Hills, California, on January 8, 2017.

“I am glad to hear this spectacular news. It’s an honor to be nominated for the Golden Globe for a third time. I would like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on behalf of both myself and ‘The Salesman’ crew, who were busy shooting this movie in Tehran last year,” Farhadi said.

The Iranian production will compete with ‘Divines’ by Houda Benyamina, ‘Elle’ by Paul Verhoeven, ‘Neruda’ by Pablo Larraín, and ‘Toni Erdmann’ by Maren Ade in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the event.

This comes as the National Board of Review in New York has recently selected ‘The Salesman’ as the best foreign language film of the year.

The film tells the story of a young couple named Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) who move into a new flat in the center of Tehran. But an incident linked to the previous tenant dramatically changes their life.

Being Iran’s submission to the 89th Academy Awards in the best foreign language film category, the film has already won double awards for best screenplay and best actor at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Farhdi's most famous movie, ‘A Separation’, grabbed global recognition as becoming the first Iranian movie to win an Oscar at the 84th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.
