US fest awards Iranian ‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’

Iranian ‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ wins 2 awards at the Bare Bones Int’l Film and Music Festival in the US.

The Bare Bones International Film and Music Festival in the US has awarded Iranian movie ‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’.

Directed by Javad Daraee and produced by Mehdi Kouhzadeh, the film won the Special Legacy Award and Bumblebee Award at the US event.

It was nominated for five awards, including the award of Best Foreign Language Feature Director.

The recipients of the Special Legacy Award are selected because of their body of work, their interest in pursuing their passion for storytelling using a variety of formats. Whether tackling controversial topics, telling stories of historic legends, or breaking stereotypes, these filmmakers are exemplary in their craft and are deserving of recognition.

‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ is about Shadi. When her parents were accused of murdering a girl and thus killed by the villagers, Shadi was only a little girl.

She was, then, adopted by her uncle and grew up. Shadi must now face the problems that the village residents have caused.

The cast list includes Fariba Talebi, Saeed Ahmadi, Fariba Torkashvand, Farahnaz Manafi-Zaher, Foujan Ahmadi, Mahshid Khosravi, Iman Sarraf, Arezou Balali-Dehkordi, Sarina Yousefi, Mohammad Eqlimi, Amir-Abbas Ghazaee, and Avin Kouhzadeh.

A coproduction of Iran, Germany, and Canada, ‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ went on screen at some global events, including the International Film Festival Cyprus, the Salerno International Film Festival and the Efebo d’oro- International Cinema and Narrative Award, both in Italy, the International Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh, and the Riverside International Film Festival in the US.

Scheduled for screening at the Houston Asian American Pacific Islander Film Festival (HAAPIFEST) in the US, the film has also won some global honors.

Founded in 1999, the Bare Bones International Film and Music Festival showcases independent motion picture projects with budgets of less than one million dollars.

The award for best romance comedy went to ‘Mojo Tango’ by Jonny Stranger and ‘The Central Authority’ by Kristin West was named best comedy of the event.

‘Bone Cage’ by Taylor Olson won the award for best drama and the award for best romance drama was given to ‘Woman in the Photographs’ by Takeshi Kushida.

‘Bad Candy’ by Scott Hansen and Desire Connell was picked as best horror movie and ‘One Long Day’ by Gairo Cuevas received the award for best dramedy.

‘The Corruption of Divine Providence’ by Jeremy Torrie won the award for best foreign origin and the award for best foreign-language film went to ‘The Fox’ by Hemwant Tiwari who also won the award for best foreign director.

The 2021 edition of the Bare Bones was held on April 22-25.
