Let’s get updated with the latest and greatest events in Iranian cinema industry during the last week.

The Tehran International Short Film Festival was well received by international filmmakers. The secretariat of the 2021 edition of the event has received over 6400 short films from around the world.

It was while the Iranian festival has been announced as an Oscars-qualifying festival. Organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS), it is held annually in the Iranian capital city of Tehran to provide an opportunity for young filmmakers to exchange their experiences.

Iranian feature ‘180° Rule’ won two awards at Beirut International Women Film Festival in Lebanon. The flick directed by Iranian female director Farnoush Samadi won awards for Best Feature Film and Best Ensemble Cast at the International Competition section of the event, held in late July.

“Sara and her husband Hamed together with their little daughter have been invited to a wedding in the north of Iran, but Hamed cannot travel due to work-related problems and this is the beginning of an incident that changes Sara’s life,” a synopsis for the film reads.

Iranian animation ‘Crab’ won the jury award at the 17th edition of the Lago Film Festival in Italy.

Directed by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi, the 11-minute animation narrates the story of a reserved and isolated schoolboy who is a theater enthusiast. Regardless of his emotional situation, he wishes to play a role in the theater group of his school. But the only part offered to him is the role of a crab.

Iranian short flick ‘Mr. and Mrs. Doe’ won an award at the Gimli Film Festival in Canada. Written and directed by Shirin Qaredaqi, the Iranian 20-minute flick received the award for the best foreign short film at the Canadian event.

‘Mr. and Mrs. Doe’ is about a retired couple living a lonely life with a tiny retirement. They still carry the responsibility for their children's weaknesses in life. How to survive is the daily question on their plate. It is mostly about loving each other through all the ups and downs of life.
