Tekyeh is a religious building used for holding mourning ceremonies in the Islamic lunar month of Muharram.
Tehran is home to a good number of old Tekyeh, some of which date back to more than a century ago.
For centuries, the Tekyeh has been a part of Iranian-Islamic culture, attracting tourists to the country during the mourning ceremonies for the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).
