Nowruz or the Persian New Year is among the traditional Iranian festivities that have been celeberated since ancient times. Various customs have been observed during the Nowruz holidays, including spreading the Haft-Seen table.

To prepare the spread, Iranian people purchase seven items that start with Persian letter 'S' which are Persian oleaster, green leafy vegetable, samano, coin, apple, sumac and garlic (in English).
