This surge in attendance puts 2024 on track to become one of the most successful years for Iranian cinema in recent decades.
The last time cinema attendance reached similar heights was in 2000, which saw 32,995,633 viewers, the highest figure in the past 25 years.
Industry analysts predict that by the end of the Persian year 1403, Iranian cinemas could surpass 33 million attendees.
According to official data, this year's attendance figures were achieved across 290 cinema complexes, housing 720 screens with a combined seating capacity of 137,829.
Audience distribution revealed that 67% of viewers attended modern cinemas, 23% opted for premium cinemas, and 10% visited first-class facilities.
Additionally, 40.35% of total viewers came from cinemas in Tehran Province, while the remaining 59.65% attended cinemas across other provinces.
Top Films of the Year
Among the most popular films this year, ‘Texas 3’ led the box office with 4,445,017 viewers, followed closely by ‘Seventy Thirty’ with 4,332,808 viewers and 'Pressure Cooker’ with 3,899,517 viewers.
This year’s diverse lineup also included hits from a variety of genres. The historical drama ‘Intoxicated by Love’ attracted 2,085,385 viewers, making it the fifth most-watched film of the year.
Meanwhile, other notable releases included the social drama ‘Bodiless’ with 752,168 viewers, the animated film ‘Sheepy, the Hero’ with 1,413,468 viewers, the children’s film ‘Kianoush’s Garden’ with 551,686 viewers, the action-mystery drama ‘Heart of Raqqa’ with 304,119 viewers, and the romantic drama ‘My name is love’ with 202,663 viewers.
