'Gilaneh' narrates the story of a mother's undying love, courage and sacrifice. The story begins in the year 1988, during the Iraq-Iran war. We follow Gilaneh as she says goodbye to her son, Ismail, a volunteer who leaves for the frontlines. The movie then follows the journey of Gilaneh and her pregnant daughter Meygol from the relative calm of their village to war-torn Tehran in search of Meygol’s husband. Now much older, in 2003, she has to nurse her once vibrant son after he was gassed by Iraqi forces during the war.
