‘Light Sight’ goes to 2018 Student Academy Awards semifinal

Iranian short animation ‘Light Sight’ has been picked as a semifinalist at the 45th edition of the Student Academy Awards in the US.

Directed by Seyyed-Moslem Tabatabaee, the 3D animation joined the other 81 semifinalists that were selected out of 1582 submitted works to the 45th Student Academy Awards.

The 7-minute animation is the story of a creature named M.E. who is enamored by a white light outside its room.

The 3D animation has already won a large number of awards at scores of international festivals, including the 18th Moondance International Film Festival, the 45th Sunrise Film Festival, the 3rd Full Bloom Film Festival, the 9th DTLA Film Festival, the 5th Flagler Film Festival and the 5th Universal Film Festival, all in the US.

The 4th Pink City International Film Festival in India, the 10th Jahorina Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the 10th Wimbledon International Short Film Festival and the 2017 Cardiff International Film Festival in the UK also presented their best animation awards to the Iranian animation.

‘Light Sight’ has so far won some 80 awards and more than 30 nominations worldwide, from almost 300 festivals held in about 55 countries.

According to official website of the Student Academy Awards, "Eligible students" among other requirements "can submit one film to the Student Academy Awards if that film... has been selected for screening in competition section at three film festivals recognized by the SAAS over the last two years."

The Student Academy Awards is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' annual competition for college and university filmmakers. The winners of the event will be eligible for the Oscars consideration.

The 45th edition of the Student Academy Awards presentation service will be held on October 11, 2018, at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, the US.
