‘Groundless’ by Sorour Mehdibeigi will take its chance at the 20th edition of the American fest.
The 15-min short film, made in 2018, is about a childless old woman who lives with her husband in a bankrupt factory. She finds the dead body of a child and decides to bury it as her adopted child.
Nevada describes ‘Groundless’ by a synopsis that says, “On the day when the end is near, the earth is barren, the moon is buried in the darkness, the graves have brought out bodies on the ground, mothers flee from their children and there is no refuge, a childless woman adopts a dead child.”
‘Groundless’ was earlier screened at the 17th Salento International Film Festival (Siff) in Italy which is an event to celebrate international independent cinema.
It also went on screen at the 35th Tehran Int’l Short Film Festival, the 60th Brno Int’l Short Film Festival in the Czech Republic as well as the 15th Tupelo Int’l Film Festival in the US.
‘Carrot Cake’ by Iman Davari and Iranian animation ‘Each Other' by Sorour Mehdibeigi will also present Iran at the Nevada film event.
The Nevada International Film Festival has been running in California since 2011 and is known as the 'Sundance of the Sierra' in California for its emphasis on supporting independent cinema and showing creative films and screenplays.
The festival will kick off on August 28 and run through September 04, 2020.
