Canadian Hot Docs to serve Iran’s ‘Holy Bread’

The Hot Docs Int’l Documentary Festival in Canada is to host Iran's ‘Holy Bread’.

The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Canada has picked Iranian ‘Holy Bread’ for screening.

The film, directed by the late Rahim Zabihi, will go on screen at the World Showcase section of the 28th edition of the Canadian fest.

Produced by Touraj Aslani, ‘Holy Bread’ tells the story of some cross-border couriers who try to make ends meet by smuggling goods into Iran.

The 54-minute doc shows how these men put their lives in dander by crossing impassable terrains carrying very heavy loads.

It took nine years for the late documentarian to make the film.

The film has so far hit the screen at various global events, including the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in the US and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

The Hot Docs is recognized as a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards in the Documentary Feature and Documentary Short Subject categories.

This year’s edition of the event, set to be held online due to the coronavirus pandemic, will take place on April 29-May 09, 2021.
