Qasr Museum hosting first plane flied to Iran a century ago

Iranian Qasr Museum hosts the first plane that flied in the country over a century ago.

Desire to fly has been one of the oldest dreams of man. Efforts to make this deep wish fulfilled can be traced back to ancient mythology, legends and of course religious texts.

For instance, in Persian mythology we can mention KayKavus who was the mythological shah of Persia and a character in Shahnameh (The book of Kings), the epic narrative written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi.

Based on the narratives passed on to us, this mythological character made a throne with 4 eagles on its four corners; and using his throne, KayKavus flied to the land of Mazandaran.

Also we have the religious story of Prophet Solomon’s magic carpet that flies with the power of wind.

One other example of man’s efforts to reach this goal is the attempts of the Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci to find a scientific way to make flight possible.

A Russian pilot named Kosminsky flied with a Bleriot 11 in Tehran for the first time. At that time, Tehran did not have an airport, so the plane was landed in the vicinity of a square called Toupkhaneh. Unfortunately while landing, one of the wings of the plane was crashed.

The plane was transferred to Qajar Palace; and after being fixed, it performed many air shows. A little later on, two English planes landed in the south of Tehran where later was known as Qalemorqi airport.

In March 1922, Mohammad Hassan Mirza, brother of Ahmad Shah Qajar, traveled with a Russian plane and landed in Tehran.
