Farmers start harvesting dates in Sistan and Baluchestan

Farmers in Sistan and Baluchestan Province start harvesting season for dates.

Farmers have started picking dates from palm tree plantations in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

The season of picking dates is from early August through early October in Iran. But this year, dates of some regions are ripe due to the heat of the season.

In most parts of Iran, farmers harvest dates in the traditional way; a worker climbs the palm tree and shakes the branches. The fresh dates pour into the large cloth that a few workers are holding at the bottom of the tree.

Every year, up to 1.2 million tons of various types of dates is produced in the country, making it the second-largest producer in terms of production and area under cultivation and the fifth largest exporter.

Iranian dates are being exported to India, Southeast Asia, CIS countries, Eurasia, Russia, and Europe.
