The Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) has kicked off in Iran’s capital Tehran, with the participation of several films from 31 countries.

The opening ceremony of the 38th edition of the TISFF was held earlier on Tuesday.

During the ceremony, Sayyed Sadeq Mousavi, the secretary of TISFF, said 6,402 films from 128 countries were submitted to take part in the festival’s international section, while 1,775 films from Iran applied for the festival’s national section.

According to Mousavi, seven percent of the Iranian films which applied for the TISFF have been selected to take part in the festival, while less than one percent of the submitted foreign films have made their way to the event.

Earlier reports said 59 films from 31 countries will be screened in the TISFF’s international section, along with five films from Iran.

Earlier this year, the TISFF has been inscribed on the list of Oscar-qualifying film festivals.

Organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, the TISFF is one of the oldest short film festivals in Iran and the Middle East.

The TISFF is a member of the International Short Film Conference (ISFC), according to the festival’s website.

The 38th edition of the festival will run until October 24.
