Iran’s Asghar Farhadi awarded at APSA

Iran’s director Asghar Farhadi grabs a prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia.

Iran’s internationally acclaimed director Asghar Farhadi has grabbed a prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Australia.

The 14th APSA gave the achievement in directing prize to Farhadi for his feature ‘A Hero’ which the event’s jury called “an intimate epic”.

Farhadi's feature is about Rahim, a divorced man who has been imprisoned due to unpaid debt. During a two-day leave, Rahim tries to prove that he is a good person.

The movie is starring Amir Jadidi, Mohsen Tanabandeh, and Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee.

‘A Hero’ was awarded the Grand Prix at the 74th Cannes Film Festival in France. The prize was also shared by Juho Kuosmanen’s ‘Compartment No.6’.

‘A Hero’ is selected as Iran’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Farhadi’s films ‘A Separation’ (2011) and ‘The Salesman’ (2016) won two Oscars for best foreign-language film.

The 14th APSA ceremony was held at in Queensland on Thursday.
