Gaza’s Eid al-Fitr: Somber celebration amid war, hunger

As Palestinians in Gaza marked Eid al-Fitr, the typical joy of the holiday became overshadowed by grief over their losses.

With food supplies dangerously low and no ceasefire in sight, families gathered among the ruins of a relentless war.

However, Palestinians maintain an unshakeable hope that their resistance, resilience, and unwavering demand for justice will eventually lead to the liberation of their occupied lands from Israel. Eid al-Fitr, also known as the Feast of Breaking the Fast, is a significant religious occasion observed by Muslims worldwide.

The religious Eid is a day that Muslims are not permitted to fast.

The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan.

The day of Eid falls on the first day of the lunar calendar month of Shawwal.

On this auspicious day, let us pray for unity and empathy among Muslim nations more than ever before.
