Tar virtuoso Farhang Sharif to be honored in Tehran

Late Iranian musician and tar player Farhang Sharif will be commemorated during a performance in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Late Iranian musician and tar player Farhang Sharif (1931-2016) will be commemorated during a traditional performance in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

A live performance is scheduled to be held at the Arasbaran Cultural Center in Tehran for September 9, starting at 7 pm.

The commemoration ceremony will be attended by a group of veteran artists and musicians.

Guest speakers at the event include two renowned figures, composer Kambiz Roshanravan, and scholar, philosopher and author Hossein Elahi Qomshei.

Roshanravan, 68, is a recipient of the First Degree Art Certificate from the evaluation council of the Culture Ministry.

Elahi Qomshei, 77, is an expert in literature, art, philosophy, poetry and mysticism.

Veteran Iranian musician and tar player Farhang Sharif passed away on September 7, 2016, at the age of 85.

He was born in 1931 in the northern Iranian city of Amol in Mazandaran Province.

The renowned artist learned his trait under the tutelage of his father at an early age, performing his first radio solo at the age of 12.

Sharif created innovations in playing the tar, which produced a brand new sound that many experts believed was the most pleasing sound ever made by the instrument.
