Latest season for "Focus on Asia" Fukuoka Int'l Filmfest in Japan presents an award to Iranian film ‘Violinist’ by Mohammad-Ali Talebi.
The Iranian movie received the Kumamoto City Prize, the festival’s website recently announced, adding, the prize "is presented as one aspect of collaboration between Fukuoka city and Kumamoto city."
It was established to further contribute to the growth of the festival, which is regarded as a distinguished film festival in Asia. The Prize is presented as a runner up prize to the Audience Award.
Receiving the award, Talebi said, “Words cannot describe how overjoyed I feel about accepting this award. The award means something really special to me, especially since it comes from everyone in the audience. This is my 4th participation in this festival but I am truly grateful on this occasion to be able to receive this award.”
“Actually after I lost my son, I was very depressed. I made this film to pull myself out of depression. I think receiving your award for this film will help futher my efforts to get over my depression. Thank you so very much,” he added.
In a corner of a bazaar in metropolitan Tehran, Kianoush earns his daily income in cash by playing popular Iranian songs on the violin. One night, Saba, an inspiring pianist, approaches him and takes him to her music school.
Without any western style musical training, Kianoush now has a chance to lead an affluent life. But unfortunate for him, he loses his precious violin.
Launched in 1991, the Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival is aimed to promote an understanding of Asia and Asian cultural exchange through excellent motion pictures.
The 27th edition of the Japanese event has been held on September 15-24, 2017.
