ifilm has conducted an exlsuive interview with Iran actor Hamid Goudarzi starring in popular series ‘Passenger from India' and  'The Times’.

Hamid Goudarzi studied acting at the Islamic Azad University.

He started his career by stage acting. His first cinematic experience was a short role in the film 'Sohrab' directed by Sa’eed Soheili in 1999.

Later he gained fame because of his performances in movies such as 'Left-Handed' (2005), 'Murder Online' (2005), 'Unfaithful' (2006), 'Checkmate' (2008), 'Women are Amazing' (2010) and 'The Fox' (2014).

He is also widely known for roles in dramas such as 'Danny and I' (1997), 'Passenger from India' (2002), 'The Fifth Sun' (2009), 'Heart of Ice' (2010) and 'The Times' (2011).

Below are the highlights of ifilm interview with the actor conducted in Persian.

ifilm: You  have acted in many popular series. No matter how many times it reruns on Iran local channels, the viewer won’t feel tired of following them. However, there are some series that don’t really hit on despite having a good crew. Why is this the case?

Goudarzi: Yes, unfortunately! In my opinion, television and its series are popular all over the world and it is considered a cultural means. The series also have a special impact on the viewer. They must produce strong series and strong work does not require much promotion and it finds its audience. We all have to unite against satellite channels by producing powerful series that are in par with those produced at the global level.

I remember when the series ‘The Times’ was on air many people told me that they prefer watching it than checking out satellite TV channels. In my opinion, we have to fortify ourselves and produce high quality works. The viewer can distinguish between strong work and weak work and chooses the strongest.

ifilm: Many filmmakers are working to counter the cultural onslaught and soft war via television and film production. What do you think about this?

Hamid Goudrzi: In my opinion we have a lot of professional filmmakers such as director Hassan Fathi who can work in this area. If we work seriously we will win.

ifilm: What made ‘The Times’ series a success?

Goudarzi: There are some series with fictional characters, but this series features characters existing in our real life. It deals with popular topics in the community such as inheritance and lying and violence. In my opinion the success of the series is due to the fact that it ends with logic.

ifilm: But the end of this series was happy!

Goudarzi: Yes! But sad ending for a series ending does not make it realistic and in my opinion one of the most important TV messages is to spread hope and joy in society.

ifilm: I tend to theater and would like to enter this area. What is the reason?

Goudarzi: Yes, in my opinion that the theater is the exercise of life, the film and television actor gets aids such as microphone and others and if there was any error re-recording the scene again, but the theater is different despite his difficulties, but it is fun.

ifilm: You have been working for a while in the field of singing. Have you had fears the audience will not accept you as a singer?

Goudrzi: The audience is always very discerning and can distinguish between good work and bad work. For me, as an artist, I do my best to do a good job appealing to others.

ifilm: On your CV, we see some weak works as well as strong ones.

Goudarzi: Yes, I accept this as I have done some weak works in my acting career; however all colleagues of mine nearly at my age are no exception to this rule. The artist, at one point in time, might be forced to participate in feeble films and series, but I have changed in a sense that now I am reluctant to act in week works and recently played in films directed by Masoud Jafari Jozani and Behrouz Afkhami. I decided not to accept any other acting offer unless there is good reason for that.

ifilm: What are you busy with right now?

Goudrzi: I am currently playing in Television series ‘  'Restless Leg' directed by Manouchehr Hadi. The project is set in a period before the Islamic Revolution.
