Petzold, Kiarostami at Trump Tower

German filmmaker Christian Petzold, who won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, shares an amusing memory about Abbas Kiarostami at Trump Tower in New York.

They were both staying at Trump Tower in New York. The hotel's breakfast was ridiculously expensive.

The next morning, Petzold decided to skip the overpriced breakfast and went for a cheaper place nearby. To his surprise, he found Kiarostami, the celebrated Iranian director who had won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, sitting around the corner, enjoying a simple sandwich.

They both laughed about avoiding the hotel's expensive breakfast by pretending they wanted to check out the filming locations of some movies nearby!
