‘Seventy Thirty’ tops box office

Iranian cinema has a new box office record-holder, as ‘Seventy Thirty’, directed by Bahram Afshari, surpasses ‘Fossil’ to become the highest-grossing film in Iran’s history.

Until the night of Sunday, February 25, ‘Fossil’, directed by Karim Amini, held the top spot.

However, ‘Seventy Thirty’ has now grossed approximately $35.7 million (324.5 billion tomans), breaking the previous record.

Released in March 2023, ‘Fossil’ quickly became a massive success, attracting 7.49 million viewers and earning about $35.7 million (324.525 billion tomans).

Over the past year, it remained the highest-grossing film in Iranian cinema history.

‘Seventy Thirty’, which premiered on November 27, 2024, has now overtaken ‘Fossil’ in revenue within just three months, despite having 5.55 million viewers—almost 2 million fewer than ‘Fossil’.

Still, its total earnings have surpassed the previous record, making it the new box office champion.

Both ‘Fossil’ and ‘Seventy Thirty’ were produced by Seyyed Ebrahim Amerian, cementing his position as a dominant figure in Iran’s film industry.
