Directors announced for Fajr Filmfest

The Iranian Cinema Organization has announced the new leadership for the National and International editions of the Fajr Film Festival, one of the country’s most important cultural events.

According to a statement from the Cinema Organization’s Public Relations office, Raed Faridzadeh, president of the organization, officially appointed Manouchehr Shahsavari as the director of the National Fajr Film Festival.

The International Fajr Film Festival is led by Rouhollah Hosseini.

Founded in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival is Iran’s most prestigious film festival, held annually to commemorate the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. The festival is divided into two main sections.

The National Fajr Film Festival, dedicated to showcasing and awarding outstanding domestic Iranian films and filmmakers.

The International Fajr Film Festival, which brings together films, filmmakers, and guests from around the world, providing a platform for cross-cultural exchange and cinematic dialogue.

Over the years, the festival has earned a reputation for highlighting both established and up-and-coming filmmakers, and it plays a central role in Iran’s cultural calendar.

The 2026 Fajr Film Festival is expected to take place in next February, in conjunction with the “Ten Days of Dawn,” which celebrates the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
