Tehran Symphony’s turning point

For the first time in the history of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, a woman is set to take the conductor’s podium.

Paniz Faryousefi will lead the orchestra in a concert titled 'Simorgh’s Abode', marking a landmark moment in Iranian classical music.

The performance will feature Pedram Faryousefi as violin soloist and will be held at Vahdat Hall in Tehran on November 12 and 13.

The concert presents a blend of Iranian and global artistry, including works by Aftab Darvishi, Golfam Khayam, Franz Schubert, Jean Sibelius, and Aram Khachaturian.

This historic event celebrates not only musical excellence, but also the growing presence of women in Iran’s orchestral scene—an inspiring step forward for the country’s cultural landscape.

Although Nezhat Amiri had previously conducted the National Orchestra of Iran in 2018, no woman had ever conducted the Tehran Symphony Orchestra before.

Faryousefi’s debut marks a historic moment for Iranian music.
