Tabrizi, Kamal (born September 28, 1959, Tehran)

Director, screenwriter, editor and cinematographer Kamal Tabrizi earned a degree in Cinema from Tehran University Faculty of Fine Arts.

He began his cinematic activities with cinematography of a movie made by Saeed Haji Miri in 1983.

He is one of the directors who has taken on issues dealing with the eight-year Iraqi-imposed war and its aftermath from different angles.

Tabrizi has directed several movies, including ‘On the Altar of Love’ (1990), ‘The End of Childhood’ (1993), ‘Sheida’ (1998), ‘Look at the Sky Sometimes’ (2002), ‘A Piece of Bread’ (2004), ‘There's Always a Woman Involved’ (2007), ‘Sensitive Level’ (2013), and ‘Sweet Taste of Dream’ (2014).

He has also directed some series such as ‘Time of Rebellion’ (2001), ‘Shahriar’ (2005), and ‘Ancient Land’ (2010-2015).

He proved his skills as a director with ‘Leili is with Me’ (1995), which tells the story of a man trying to avoid the war, but accidently ends up on the front line and experiences war first hand. Tabrizi won a Fajr Film Festival Crystal Simorgh for Best Screenplay for ‘Leili is with Me’.

His movie ‘A Mother's Love’ (1997) received the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk Grand Prix at Berlin International Film Festival in 1999 and the ASPI Award at Castellinaria International Festival of Young Cinema.

Tabrizi’s ‘The Wind Carpet’ (2002) received the Special Jury Prize and the Audience Award for Best Film at the Fajr Film Festival.

His movie ‘Mina’s Choice’ (2015) was nominated for the Best Film and the Best Director awards at the 34th edition of Fajr Film Festival.

He is most famous for making the memorable movie ‘The Lizard’ (2003) for which he received the Audience Award and Special Jury Award at the 22nd Fajr Film Festival as well as the Golden Zenith for Best Film from Asia at Montréal World Film Festival in 2004.
