Jamileh Sheikhi

X

Sheikhi, Jamileh (born April 28, 1930, Zanjan - died May 24, 2001, Tehran)

Jamileh Sheikhi was born in a culture-lover family.

Her parents encouraged her to participate in school plays.

In 1957, she began her artistic activity by acting under the supervision of veteran actors.

Sheikhi, with the help of Ezzatollah Entezami, Mohammad Ali Keshavarz, Jafar Vali and Hamid Samandarian, founded a new form of theater at the Dramatic Arts Office.

As theater was declining in popularity in Iran, their novel form of acting managed to attract people to the real theater.

Sheikhi then appeared in a number of one-act plays for the small screen and a while later received an honorary doctorate degree in theater.

Following an invitation from Nosrat Karimi, she made her movie debut with 'Devastation' in 1975.

In the 1980s, she appeared in the films 'Paeezan' (1981) and 'Little Bird of Happiness' (1987), while simultaneously featuring in many teleplays.

She also took part in the TV series 'The Patriarch' (1993) and 'Born Again' (1998).

One of her memorable roles was in the film 'The Passengers' (1991) which earned her a Crystal Simorgh from the Fajr International Film Festival.

Five years later, she won another Crystal Simorgh for her performance in 'Leila' (1996).

Her last film was 'Unruled Paper' (2001).

Jamileh Sheikhi, the mother of the actor, Atila Pesyani, passed away in 2001 due to a heart attack.
