Kimiaee, Masoud (born July 29, 1941, Tehran)

Masoud Kimiaee made his directional debut as an assistant director on Samuel Khachikian’s movie production ‘Good Bye Tehran’ (1968). 

His 1969 ‘Kaiser’ was a box office success, greatly influencing the film industry. He has introduced many young new talents to the Iranian cinema. A remarkable feature of Kimiaee’s works includes use of slang and street language in screenplays of his movies to reach a larger audience. 

He has written, directed and produced ‘The Deer’ (1974), ‘The Deal’ (1994), ‘Banquet’ (1995), ‘Mercedes’ (1997), ‘Friday Soldiers’ (2003), ‘The Verdict’ (2004) and ‘Metropol’ (2013). 

Some of the awards and nominations he has earned for his artistic efforts include: 
1. Best Scenic and Costume Design nomination for ‘Soltan’ (1996) at Iran Cinema Celebration
 2. Best Director Crystal Simorgh nomination for ‘Objection’ (1999) at Fajr international Film Festival
 3. Gold Hugo nomination for ‘Snake Fang’ at Chicago International Film Festival
 4. Best Film Crystal Simorgh and Critics’ Award for ‘Crime’ (2010) at Fajr International Film Festival.

5. Jury’s Special Award for ‘Snake Fang’ (1989) at Montreal International Film Festival.
