Watch ifilm's exclusive report on the Iranian feature ‘Pope’ directed by Ehsan Abdipor, starring Hadis Chehrepardaz.
Below are highlights of the report.
Ehsan Abdipour, director: If I want to tell you the storyline in a sentence, and not let the cat out of the bag, I should say it revolves around three stories from a family in Boushehr. They have a dark story. There are three stories happening in 15 days. Each time, we go back and follow the story from the first day.
They all share a pain which involves love. It’s great pain covered by jokes. But in fact, the gist of our story is a remote pain.
I always say that it’s because of laziness. I always take the nearest elements and factors around me and make a film about them. Suppose you want to build a house in Tehran with Italian stones and there is no transportation. If you have enough patience and it’s very vital, you have to go somewhere and get the stones. Otherwise, you’ll build the house with the material available because you think it can be made with those materials.
Hadis Chehrehpardaz, actress: I’m from the south of Iran. We’ve been old friends. Considering that Mr. Abdipour knew this. I think it was the initial phases of drafting the screenplay. He told me that they were working on a project; it’s like this and that… he asked if I was in or not.
This is what happened. Now we’ll have to see what’ll happen next.
