Iran researcher praises intellect at FIff

Iranian scholar hails the Fajr Int'l Film Festival’s intellectual side.

Iranian researcher and religion expert has praised the Fajr International Film Festival (FIff) as a gallery for thoughts, which depicts a variety of cultures and lifestyles.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 36th FIff in Tehran, Muslim clergy and academic Ahmad Bathaei said the festival somehow resembles cinema verite as the movies do not aim at the box office; for an album of intellect is displayed, challenging your mind and soul, as well as pushing you to think.

The clergy, who is also a researcher, highlighted comedies as the bottom line of what was displayed, noting that even that genre made one ponder.

Bathaei, who has written the novel ‘Prophet’s Hardships’, commended all the flicks screened in the FIff, saying the films also portrayed deep sentiments for the audience.

The researcher called for more involvement of belief and religion, as well as anti-hegemony as themes for screenplays to participate in the future editions of the event.

The 36th edition of the FIff took place in Tehran on April 19-27, 2018.
