Iranian animation ‘Maned & Macho’ to vie in Australia

Iranian short animation ‘Maned & Macho’ is to compete at the MIAF 18 in Australia.

Iranian short animation ‘Maned & Macho’ has been selected to compete at the 2018 Melbourne International Animation Festival (MIAF 18) in Australia.

Directed by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi, ‘Maned & Macho’ has been selected from among more than 4,000 applicants to go on the Australian screen.

The short animation is about a girl’s repressed emotions and instincts, which are embodied in some animals that come out of her dreams. However, no one in her family is receptive to these animals.

The 11-minute ‘Maned & Macho’ has so far attended a number of international film events, including the 41st Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden, the 47th Giffoni International Film Festival in Italy, and the 35th Busan International Short Film Festival in South Korea.

The 56th Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, the 28th Cinequest Film Festival in the US, the 30th Filmfest Dresden – International Short Film Festival in Germany, the 3rd Animavi International Film Festival of Poetic Animation in Italy, and the 18th MONSTRA Lisbon Animated Film Festival in Portugal have been the other hosts of the animation so far.

The 17th edition of the Hiroshima International Animation Festival in Japan will also host the animation on June 23-27, 2018.

The MIAF is an annual animation festival held since 2001. Supported by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the Australian Film Commission and the Melbourne City Council, it is Australia's largest animation event.

Over the course of the festival more than 200 films from more than 30 countries are shown. Highlights of the festival include many guest artists and visiting animators, from both local and abroad.

The 2018 edition of the MIAF is slated for June 14-23 in Melbourne, Australia.
