Angelina Jolie, kids promote passion project in Cambodia

American actress Angelina Jolie and her children pay a visit to Cambodia to promote her latest passion project.

American actress Angelina Jolie and her children have paid a visit to the Southeast Asian nation of Cambodia to promote her movie set in the country.

The famous actress and her six children attended the world premiere of her passion project, ‘First They Killed My Father’, in the city of Siem Reap on Saturday.

‘First They Killed My Father’ is Jolie’s fourth directorial project.

“I cannot find words to express what it means to me that I was entrusted with telling part of the story of this country,” she said at the premiere.

“Most of all, this film is my way of saying thank you to Cambodia,” she said, adding,  “Without Cambodia I may never have become a mother. Part of my heart is and will always be in this country. And part of this country is always with me: Maddox.”

Jolie’s son Maddox, 15, was born in Cambodia and adopted by Jolie in 2002.

‘First They Killed My Father’ tells the story of a Cambodian-born human-rights activist who grew up under the communist party’s Khmer Rouge regime.

The movie’s audio is in Cambodia’s native language Khmer, grounded on an autobiographical book of the same name, written by Cambodian-born American Loung Ung.

“I read Loung’s book many years ago,” Jolie said, adding, “It helped to open my eyes to what was going on the world.”
