Iranian ‘Bitter Sea’ to land in South Africa

Iranian short ‘Bitter Sea’ is to vie at the 39th Durban Int'l Film Festival in South Africa.

Iranian short ‘Bitter Sea’ has been selected to compete at the 39th edition of the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) in South Africa.

Written and directed by Fatemeh Ahmadi, ‘Bitter Sea’ is about the suffering of an immigrant mother.

It tells the story of a Romanian single mother who escapes from an abusive husband and flees to London to build a better future for her daughter.

Produced in the UK, it was earlier screened at the 71st Cannes Film Festival in France and last year’s Berlinale in Germany.

The DIFF is an annual film festival that takes place in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa.

It is one of the oldest and largest film festival in Southern Africa and presents more than 200 screenings celebrating the best in South African, African and international cinema.

The festival also offers filmmaker workshops, industry seminars, discussion forums, and outreach activities that include screenings in township areas where cinemas are non-existent, and much more including Talent Campus Durban and a film market.

The 39th Durban International Film Festival is slated for July 19-29, 2018, in South Africa.
