'Parting' to vie at Portland Film Festival in US

The 2016 Afghan-Iranian drama film 'Parting' directed by Navid Mahmoudi has been scheduled to compete at the Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) in the US.

Narrating the story of suffering, pain of immigration and homelessness, the flick will vie at the competition section of the event, which started on February 9.

The movie was introduced as the representative of Afghanistan to the 89th edition of the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film; however, it could not make it to the final list of nominees published by the Oscars 2017.

Mahmoudi’s movie has gone on screen at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea in October 2016 as well as the 21st edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala in India.

‘Parting’ tells the story of two young Afghans in love, Nabi and Fereshteh. Fereshteh leaves the country with her parents to seek refuge in Iran and Nabi is to seek a better life for her love. The love story fluctuates among reaching and separation.

The Portland International Film Festival is an annual platform for the very best in new world cinema.

PIFF is the largest film event in Oregon, premiering more than 140 shorts and feature films made by international filmmakers to Portland audiences every February.

The 40th edition of the PIFF has been slated for February 9-25, 2017.
