DEFC focuses on 'Women with Gunpowder Earrings'

The Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) has reviewed Iranian director Reza Farahmand’s acclaimed documentary 'Women with Gunpowder Earrings'.

Farahmand and film critic Omid Najvan attended the review session on Saturday at the DEFC.

The director explained that going to Iraq he knew the difficulties to talk to women who had fought Daesh, but meeting Nur el-Helli evolved the situation.

"The audience members watch war scenes of 'Women with Gunpowder Earrings' that they have not seen so often," Najvan said.

The film is about Nur, a female journalist who covers stories about Syrian and Iraqi women and children in the war against the Daesh terrorists.

In December 2017, the film won the best feature-length documentary award at the 11th edition of the Cinema Verite, Iran’s major international festival of documentary cinema organized by the DEFC.

It also brought Farahmand the award for best director in the national competition section.

The doc will compete at the 71st edition of the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland on August 1-11, 2018.
