ifilm brings you global cinema statistics in article series.

As global cinema industry figures are published annually, some of them might raise eyebrows, while others would simply astonish the readers. ifilm will, in this series of articles (in tips format), highlight some of those figures, based on globally published statistics for 2017.

The subsequent reports include both the theatrical market and home entertainment market.

23-Do you notice movie theaters being built around you? Last year, a total of 170,000 new cinemas were built worldwide. The largest growth size was in Asia, where the double digit rate reached 16%.

24-The despotic regime of Saudi Arabia opened movie theaters after 35 years. The move came in a show of democracy, while the nation remains under the suppression of the monarch thugs, especially in the eastern region of Al-Qatif region.

26- Are digital cinemas accessible enough? As the changes have been gradual, you might not have noticed whether the last flick you watched on the large screen was truly a digital one. However, figures show that by the end of last year, virtually all the world’s cinema screens were digital; hence 98%.

27- And last but not least in this installment of the article series, is the ratio of 3D digital screens to all such screens. The percentage was 59%, which is close to one-third of the total digital screens.

Once you look back at the figures published so far in the series of articles here, you might have noticed the trends in the entertainment industry; which could be interpreted as people showing more tendency toward entertainment and pastime.
