Iran film ‘No Date, No Signature’ is set to be among Foreign-Language Oscar contenders from Asia at the 4th Asian World Filmfest in the US.
Representing Iran at the Best Foreign Language Film section of the 2019 Academy Awards, ‘No Date, No Signature’ by Vahid Jalilvand will be presented along with other Oscar contenders at the American film festival.
A batch of 14 Oscar and 7 Golden Globes submissions is included in the screening program of the 4th edition of the event.
The competition will be judged by a jury led by actress-producer Vivian Wu.
A forensic doctor finds himself personally entangled in a young boy’s death in Jalilvand’s ‘No Date, No Signature’.
This well-acted drama was much applauded at the Venice Horizons section of the 74th Venice Film Festival by the best director award; and its star Navid Mohammadzadeh was also selected as best actor in this strand.
Jalilvand’s 104-minute film was also recognized by the jury of the 35th Fajr Film Festival with Best Director and Best Supporting Actor awards for ‘No Date, No Signature’.
Notable among the long list of international titles swept by the flick are Best Film Award at Brussels Int'l Film Festival, Best Director awards at Russia’s Mirror Int'l Film Festival, Audience Award and Best Actor Award at 18th Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Int'l Film Festival in Spain and Grand Prize of 2017 Chicago Int'l Film Festival.
The Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) brings a broad selection of over 50 Asian countries to Los Angeles to showcase the region’s filmmakers and strengthen ties between Asia’s film industry and Hollywood.
The event is scheduled for October 24 to November 1, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.
