RIFF to screen tragic doc on Rohingya genocide

'I Am Rohingya: A Genocide in Four Acts', a drama documentary exposing the ethnic cleansing of Myanmar's Rohingya Muslims, is set to take part in the 15th annual Resistance International Film Festival in Iran.

The moving documentary reveals the real-life experiences of a group of Rohingya who actually lived through the barbaric military violence of the Burmese government on the Rohingya people. Without any prior acting experience, the group of fourteen youth attempt to reenact their people's stories of the tragic events as well as their own families' heroic escape from Burma.

The story covers the events leading up to, during, and immediately following the Burmese government's savage attacks on Rakhine State, their brutal escape from the genocide of the Burmese military, and their eventual arrival and beginning of a new life in an unfamiliar country.

With their resettlement in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada, the youth are striving to enlighten the world regarding the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya by the Burmese government, sharing their personal experiences, and ultimately filling the void created by a media monopoly apathetic to the ethnic cleansing and genocide of innocent Rohingya Muslims.

The powerful documentary directed by Yusuf Zine and produced by Jamaal Azeez will be competing in the documentary section of the Resistance festival, and is set to be screened at Tehran's Felestin Theater Hall with the screening date still unannounced. The drama documentary contains graphic and explicit material yet to be shown by TV, Media, and other films covering the Rohingya genocide.

The 15th annual Resistance International Film Festival seeks to establish an atmosphere of discourse through the recognition of filmmakers and activists. The event also aims to promote common human ethos of peace, brotherhood, and the resistance of oppression, all while fighting violence and terrorism through the universal language of films.

The festival is set to be held on November 26-30, 2018, at Felestin Theater Hall in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
