Cinema Museum of Iran has played host to ‘Hamoun’ and ‘Snake Fang’ directed by two Iranian mega-directors.
‘Hamoun’ by Dariush Mehrjoui and ‘Snake Fang’ by Masoud Kimiaee has been screened in the seventh session of a special program titled ’40 Years of Iranian Cinema’ which has been held by Cinema Museum of Iran.
The two most celebrated films of Iran cinema were screened in their revised versions; and the screening session was followed by discussion on the process of film production.
‘Snake Fang’ is a 1990 Iranian war film that won an Honorable Mention at the 41st Berlin International Film Festival.
It also bagged Special Jury Prize of the Montreal World Film Festival in 1992.
Mehrjoui’s ‘Hamoun’ is a 1989 psychological drama movie often described as employing Fellini-like dream sequences and flashbacks.
In a series of flashbacks and dreams, ‘Hamoun’ tells the story of the midlife crisis of a self-absorbed man played by late Iran actor Khosro Shakibaee who can't accept or realize why his wife wants a divorce.
In 1997, the movie was voted the best Iranian film of all time by Iranian film critics, superseding Mehrjoui’s 'Gaav' (The Cow, 1969) from top position.
Many short-duration shots along with numerous zoom shots have given ‘Hamoun’ a nervous and dynamic mode.
Cinema Museum of Iran was launched in September 1994, aiming to collect, safeguard, record and provide a proper presentation of the Iranian cinematic heritage.
