American director Sean Penn filming doc on Khashoggi’s killing

Famous Hollywood actor, filmmaker Sean Penn begins shooting doc on killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Famous Hollywood actor and filmmaker Sean Penn has arrived in Turkey to film a documentary about the death of Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul this October.

The Oscar-awarded actor arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday to shoot some scenes for his upcoming documentary.

Penn, accompanied by a crew of around 10, was spotted shooting near the Saudi consulate as well as the residence of the Saudi consul, who left Turkey after the murder.

The filmmaker will reportedly meet with Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, and a number of the journalist’s associates as a part of the filming process.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist who had been critical of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman recently, was killed after entering the Saudi consulate on October 2. The Saudi regime acknowledged the “premeditated” murder after weeks of denials of involvement in Khashoggi’s disappearance.

The murder battered the image of Mohammed bin Salman abroad.

Iran’s Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) screened a documentary about the death of Khashoggi last month.

Documentary ‘It is Not Only Khashoggi' (Faqat Khashoggi Nist) was screened at the 15th RIFF, which wrapped up in Iran on December 1, and impressed the audiences.

The film refers to the ambiguities surrounding the death of Khashoggi and uncovers similar incidents.
