Iranian short film ‘Return’ directed by Shahriar Pourseyedian has won the Grand Prix award at the 3rd edition of the Alternative Film Territory Film Festival (ATK-FEST) in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Produced by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, ‘Return’ narrates the story of a man named Rahim who is set free after enduring 23 long years in prison, returning to his hometown in order to meet his brother and unveil the details of a horrific tragedy.

Pourseyedian’s film has received numerous nominations at festivals around the world, winning the Best Short Fiction award at the 9th Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Amman, Jordan as well as an Honorable Mention in Italy’s 21st Religion Today Film Festival.

The Alternative Film Territory is an international online film festival held annually, specializing in alternative cinema.

The festival aims at providing a platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their creativity, to reach out to their target audience, and to receive professional feedback from a competent jury.

Genres featured at the event were: Animated Short Films, Documentary Short Films, Fiction Short Films, and Music Videos.

The festival’s closing ceremonies were held on December 19, 2018.
