Iran is to cooperate with Japan’s National Museum of Ethnology to bring together Iranian movies to Japanese audience.

Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization announced the news on Wednesday following talks between Iranian cultural attaché Hossein Divsalar and Kenji Kuroda, the curator of the Middle East section of the museum in Osaka.

Under the agreement, the National Museum of Ethnology will provide the necessary patronage for Iran to screen a selection of films with Japanese subtitles at various events in the country.

They subsequently announced a similar move that a lineup of Iranian films will be screened at the Osaka Asian Film Festival, which is scheduled for March 8-17, 2019.

Notable among the films to go on screen is 'The Eastern' documentary directed and produced by Masoud Taheri on the life of the Japanese Islamologist and Quran scholar Toshihiko Izutsu.

The National Museum of Ethnology is one of the major museums and largest research institute in the academic disciplines of humanities and social sciences based in Japan.

It is the only research institute of cultural anthropology and ethnology in the world that is equipped with one of the world’s largest museum facilities as well as post-graduate educational facilities.
