Cinema Museum of Iran screens Iranian Palme d'Or winner of Cannes Film Festival.
Cannes top winner ‘Taste of Cherry’ by late Iranian mega-director Abbas Kiarostami goes on screen during the 12th session of a special program titled ’40 Years of Iranian Cinema’ which is held every week by Cinema Museum of Iran.
The flick was awarded the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival in the year of its release.
‘Taste of Cherry’ is a 1997 Iranian drama film written, produced and directed by Kiarostami.
It is a minimalist film about a man who drives through a city suburb, in search of someone who can carry out the task of burying him after he commits suicide.
Since the film's release, multiple critics have declared it a masterpiece.
‘The Glass Agency’ by Ebrahim Hatamikia is also picked to be screened at the event.
Iran filmmaker and critic Naser Safarian will review Hatamikia’s 1998 drama while scriptwriter and critic Mohsen Azarm will have ‘Taste of Cherry’ under review.
The multiple prizewinner ‘The Glass Agency’ is the story of a war veteran living in post war Iran who takes hostage everyone in a travel agency to force the fund for a medical trip to England for one of his former men.
Hatamikia's controversial depiction of veterans from the Iran-Iraq war stars Parviz Parastoui, Reza Kianian and Habib Rezaee.
‘The Glass Agency’ has won Hatamikia the best screenplay and directing awards from the 16th Fajr Film Festival.
Cinema Museum of Iran was launched in September 1994, aiming to collect, safeguard, record and provide a proper presentation of the Iranian cinematic heritage.
