The 2017 highly watched theatre play ‘The Prisoner of Second Avenue’ featuring ifilm star Mohammad-Javad Ezzati is to be staged in Canada.
The troupe of the comedy play at the helm of actress/ director Mahlaqa Baqeri, who is Ezzati’s wife, will host Iranians living in Canada.
Due to a tight schedule, the troupe will have only one performance in each of the three largest Canadian cities of Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
The play will go on stage at the Kay Meek Arts Centre in Vancouver on February 22nd, 2019.
Then, on March 1st, 2019 Toronto Centre for the Arts will play host to the Iranian troupe.
The last night will be March 2nd, 2019 at the Montreal Place des Arts where the play will be staged.
The cast stars Roya Miralami, Abbas Jamshidifar, Amir Kazemi and the director Mahlaqa Baqeri.
The play was very well received by audiences in Iran.
‘The Prisoner of Second Avenue’ is an American black comedy play by Neil Simon.
The story revolves around the escalating problems of a middle-aged couple living on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Mel Edison, the main character, has just lost his job after many years and now has to cope with being unemployed at middle age during an economic recession.
