Dhaka filmfest to screen Iranian feature ‘Hendi & Hormoz’

Iranian feature ‘Hendi & Hormoz’ is to go on screen at the 17th Dhaka Int’l Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Iranian feature ‘Hendi & Hormoz’ has been set to go on screen at the 17th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

The 91-minute feature will hit the silver screen at the Children Section of the event on January 17, 2019.

Directed by Abbas Amini, ‘Hendi & Hormoz’ takes place on Iran’s Hormuz Island in the Persian Gulf, where hematite deposits in the soil turn the ocean waves blood-red.

The film is about a 16-year-old boy, Hormoz, who is married to Hendi, three years younger than him, after he promises that he can work as a miner.

But the young man finds closed doors instead of a job. Gradually the game of life becomes more serious and dangerous for both kids.

Hamed Alipour, Zohreh Eslami and Mohammad Banouj are among the cast.

The film won best film, best script and new acting talent awards at the 15th edition of the Transsaharien International Film Festival in Nigeria.

‘Hendi & Hormoz’ has gone on screen at a number of global events, including the 14th Arabisches Film Festival and the 68th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) in Germany. It is also slated for screening at the 8th ÍRÁN:CI Film Festival in Capital of the Czech Republic.

Established in 1992, the DIFF is one of the most prestigious film events in Bangladesh, dedicated to introduce the mainstream global cinema to the local filmmakers as well as to promote healthy cine culture within Bangladesh.

The 17th DIFF, themed “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society”, is featuring some 170 films by filmmakers from about 60 countries around the world.

Various competition sections are being held at this DIFF, highlighting a wide range of interests from Asian to international cinema, children’s films, women filmmakers, short and independent films, and spiritual films.

The 17th DIFF has been slated for January 10-18, 2019, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
