Pakistan cinemas run Bollywood flicks again

Pakistan cinemas are to run India films again after a ban was slapped on Bollywood movies.

Pakistan cinemas are set to screen Indian films again after a ban was slapped on Bollywood movies in the country.

Screening of Bollywood films will resume in Pakistan months after a ban on movies from India sparked due to tensions between the two countries.

The measure "is [a] step for peace and harmony," Nadeem Mandviwala, head of Atrium Cinemas in Pakistan, was quoted by the media as saying, adding, "If you ask people in both countries, they will" agree to the new decision.

Before the ban was in place, Indian films were featured in many Pakistan cinemas.

The movie feud came after Bollywood producers were told not to appear in Indian films.

Mandviwala noted that the ban was lifted partly due to losses experienced by cinema owners, adding, "The Bollywood films were anyway being watched illegitimately through DVDs and internet.”

The ban also forced Karan Johar, a leading Indian filmmaker, to promise he would not employ Pakistani artists in future projects.
