Zohreh Zamani to serve Russian filmfest jury

Zohreh Zamani is to serve as juror at 15th Kazan Muslim Film Festival in Russia.

Iranian filmmaker Zohreh Zamani is set to serve as juror at the 15th edition of Kazan Muslim Film Festival to be held in Russia.

Zamani, who is both filmmaker and the head of Anzali Youth Cinema, will be on the jury panel of the festival.

She will travel to Russia to attend the April 2019 event.

Zohreh Zamani was the first Muslim woman to join the jury panel of the Religion Today Film Festival in 2010 in Italy, as well as the 2012 Dhaka International Film Festival.

Two years later, she was selected as head of jury for the short films sector of Dhaka Film Festival, in which 216 flicks were screened, and hosted more than a hundred international figures.

The director started her career back in 2000 with the Iranian Youth Cinema Society in the port city of Anzali, North of Iran.

Zamani has so far produced 10 movies, mostly praised at domestic and international film festivals.  

Zamani also hosted as member of the jury at the 6th Nepal Human Rights International Filmfest.

The 2019 edition of the Kazan Muslim Film Festival received film submissions from various countries, including Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Croatia, France, Germany, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Syria, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Turkey, the UK, the USA, Uzbekistan and Yemen.

Since 2005, Kazan Muslim Film Festival is one of the largest annual film forums in Russia. 

The program of the festival focuses on Russian and international films promoting the ideas of peace building, intercultural dialogue and tolerance regardless their religious affiliations.

The concept of the festival is reflected through its official motto ‘Through the dialogue of cultures to the culture of dialogue’.

The event is slated to be held April 24 to 30, 2019, in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.
