Iran doc ‘Lotus’ to compete at Beirut Int'l Film Festival

Iran documentary ‘Lotus’ is to vie at the Beirut International Film Festival in Lebanon.

Directed by Mohammadreza Vatandoust, the documentary has been selected to vie at the 18th edition of the Beirut International Film Festival.

The documentary tells the story of an old woman who has been waiting for 12 years to get permission to enter an island. She wants to see the only resident who lives there.

The successful documentary has participated in a number of international festivals and garnered top awards. Some of the festivals are the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and the Roshd International Film Festival.

Lotus was selected to be screened at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival in the UK, to go on screen at the Cervino Cinemountain International Film Festival in Italy and to compete at 2018 LA Film Festival in the US.

According to the website, the festival, over the past years, has hosted many international and Middle Eastern figures such as Abbas Kiarostami, Isabelle Huppert, Francis Ford Coppola, Juliette Binoche, and Marco Mueller.

The first edition of the Beirut International Film Festival was held in October 1997. The 18th edition is slated for April 22-28, 2019. ‘Lotus’ is expected to go on the screen on April 22.
