The 67th Trento International Film Festival in Italy has kicked off screening Iranian documentary ‘Beloved’.

The Iranian documentary is taking part at the competition section of the Italian event, vying with 26 other titles.

Directed by Yasser Talebi, the 63-minute documentary is about the difficult but favorable life of an 83-year-old mother named Firouzeh who runs a unique life in the Alborz Mountains in northern Iran.

Firouzeh hikes across the rugged landscape carrying bundles of wood. When she was a young girl, a marriage was arranged for her with an older man, with whom she had 11 children. Now, none of her children come to visit her and her attempts to get closer to them remain futile.

The film attended the 2018 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the 16th Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in the US, the 69th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, the 37th Fajr Film Festival in Iran, and the 38th International Istanbul Film Festival in Turkey.

It is also competing at the 26th Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

Founded in 1952, the Trento is the oldest international film festival dedicated to the mountains, adventure and exploration.

It has represented the point of reference on these subjects for more than sixty years, over time transforming itself into a genuine testing ground for visions and ideas on the highest lands on earth, embracing an ever increasing range of interests, including environmental and cultural issues and current affairs, making the festival environment and program even more varied and stimulating.

Started on April 27, 2019, the 67th Trento International Film Festival will run until May 5.
