UK film festival to screen Iran’s ‘Before Darkness’

Iran’s short ‘Before Darkness’ is to participate at the First_Time Filmmaker Sessions in the UK.

Iran’s short film ‘Before Darkness’ has been set to participate at the First_Time Filmmaker Sessions in the UK.

‘Before Darkness’ (formerly known as The Baby) will compete at the 7th edition of the event, according to the Iranian Youth Cinema Society.

Written and directed by Mosayyeb Hanaee, the film is based on a true story. It is about a woman who has crossed into Iran along with other Afghans as they want to enter Turkey illegally.

The woman, who is accompanied by her child, can’t take her child with her as she can’t afford smuggling fees.

The film stars Shahbanou Mohammadi, Iraj Tadayyon, Javid Farahani, Reza Ahmadi, Narges Hezareh, Ahmad Ataee, and Gholam-Hossein Shabani.

‘Before Darkness’ was awarded at the 35th edition of the Tehran International Short Film Festival Awards in Iran.

The First_Time Filmmaker Sessions “accept all genres and content type where this is the first filmmaking project undertaken by the core production team or the first project undertaken within 5 years of their previous.”
