ifilm has interviewed the director, the director of photography Nader Masoumi, as well as the actor Hossein Mahjoub and the actress Maryam Nahvi.
In addition to Mahjoub and Nahvi, notable among the cast are Payam Fazli, Afshan Jafarikhah, and Mehrnoush Moqimi.
Written and produced by Mehranfar, the film tells the story of water (!) and its shortage in dry lands of Iran’s deserts.
A young geologist is looking for underground water sources in desert. On the way, he arrives in an isolated village where an old man is its only inhabitant.
The old man guides the young geologist through a well. When the young man goes inside, the old man closes the way back and forces the geologist to find something really precious for him.
The film was simultaneously premiered at international market of the 69th Cannes Film Festival in France and the 5th Iran International Green Film Festival where it was nominated for best film and best directing awards.
‘The Dream of Water’ has also gone on screen at some global events, including the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, the São Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil, and the Berlin International Green Film Festival in Germany where it won an award.
