The 3rd edition of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) has nominated Iranian feature ‘Axing’ in six categories.
The Iranian title is nominated for best film, best director, best actress, best actor, best supporting actress, and best supporting actor awards.
Directed by Behrouz Shoeibi and produced by Seyyed-Mahmoud Razavi, the social drama features a different narrative on how people confront addiction and drug abuse.
“There is nothing harder in life than seeing someone you love decide to be alone. You enjoy seeing her and hearing her voice, but she closed the doors and chooses loneliness in your place ... There is nothing harder in life than being left alone. You see your loved ones and you love them, but they all deny you. They closed doors on you and you are alone. Loneliness is a swamp,” a synopsis for the film read.
The film tells the story of an addicted woman who thinks that her girl is dead, but when finds out that she is alive and lives with her father (the addicted woman’s ex-husband), she decides to take her back. It leads her to face her ex-husband and his new wife.
Actors such as Mahnaz Afshar, Sara Bahrami, Jamshid Hashempour, Hadi Hejazifar, Negar Abedi, Shadi Karamroudi, and Amin Hayaee are among the cast.
Written by Azita Irayee, the movie grabbed 10 nominations at the 36th Fajr Film Festival in Iran and scored two Crystal Simorgh awards at the event.
It went on screen at the 16th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival in Armenia, the 16th Chennai International Film Festival in India, and brought the Best Actress award to Sara Bahrami at the 8th Iranian Film Festival Australia.

The 3rd MIFFest is slated for July 14-19, 2019, at TGV Cinemas in Sunway Velocity, Suria KLCC, and One Utama.
